Neck River Trail
Description
The Neck River Trail is a short but super rewarding loop tucked away off Opening Hill Road. It’s just over a mile, but packs in a surprising amount of variety. Right from the start, you're walking through old red pine stands and then into peaceful oak and hickory woods. As you follow the loop, you’ll pass through shady groves of white pines and spruce, cross over streams, and wind past wetlands full of skunk cabbage, spicebush, and bright yellow marsh marigolds in spring. There are cool signs of history too—like old charcoal pits and fire-scarred birch trees—that give the forest some extra character. One of the highlights is the quiet stretch along the Neck River, where the slow-moving water and rocky riffles add a calming vibe. It’s a perfect trail if you’re looking for a relaxing walk with a mix of scenery, and it even connects to the Blinnshed Ridge Trail if you want to go further.
