Mica Ledges Trail

Description

The Mica Ledges Trail in Durham, Connecticut, offers hikers a moderately challenging experience through diverse landscapes. This approximately 3.1mile loop trail features exposed granite ledges rising about 400 feet above the Coginchaug River Valley, providing magnificent vistas to the west along the Mattabesett Trail. Notable landmarks include Pyramid Rock, a prominent geological formation, and Whitney Pond, a picturesque six-acre body of water. The trail also traverses dense forests adorned with mountain laurel, Connecticut's state flower, and passes by unique rock formations, vernal pools, and historical features like the Selectmen’s Stones, marking the boundaries of Durham, Guilford, and Madison. Hikers can expect a blend of steep ascents, rocky terrains, and serene wooded paths, making it a rewarding trek for those seeking both scenic beauty and a touch of local history.

This is route has some really nice scenic spots. It starts out pretty easy along a dirt road, then goes to some more difficult blue and black trails along the ridge of the mountain. You will climb up to elevations of 550+ feet! Theres also a small extension off of the selectman's path that allows you to walk up to the side of the Whitney Pond. Overall the harder parts are pretty steep, narrow,  and rocky.
