Lost Pond Trail
Description
This short trail offers a gentle walk through a managed section of Cockaponset State Forest, leading to Lost Pond, a small vernal pool that appears in spring. The path winds through mixed woodlands, featuring stone walls that hint at the area's agricultural past. Hikers can observe a variety of trees, including beech, red maple, tulip-poplar, black birch, and oak. The trail also passes through areas with dense understory vegetation, providing habitat for local wildlife.

Difficulty

The trail stays mostly level with just a few small uphill spots. The ground is easy to walk on but has some roots and rocks along the way. It can get a little muddy near the pond or after it rains. The path is easy to follow from start to finish.
